Archery Rules

Legal Eligibility & compliance

NO crossbows allowed Under 18s must be accompanied by a paying adult No spectators or sharers permitted, this is to stop overcrowding on the shooting line. Min age 12 years Archers are advised to hold valid archery insurance, although this is not mandatory Do not wear headphones or ear pods, as this may prevent hearing safety commands. All persons act as safety officers. If you see danger, shout “FAST” immediately. (fast means stop shooting) You must inspect the range is safe before you start. CCTV is in operation across the site for the safety and security of all visitors and staff. 10.Bows and arrows must be in a concealed case when moving to and from the range

Booking & Arrival

You must pre-book your visit, as time is precious and fuel is expensive. Bookings are payable if not cancelled more than 24 hours in advance. Your 1.5 hour range time starts promptly at your booked start time. Ring the bell and wait. If we do not come, ring again or call 07973 115769. Reception is not manned full-time as we are working in the woodland. If you arrive late, this will eat into your booked range time, ring the bell and wait. Do not let yourself in. If you need assistance during your visit, ring the reception bell or call 07973 115769. When leaving, you must report to a member of staff to check out. Ring the bell or text 07973 115769. Bows and arrows must be in a case when moving to and from the range. We do not permit spectators or sharers on the archery range Your 1.5 hour range time includes set up and take down of your equipment. Please leave the range on time to allow safe changeovers.

Conduct & Behaviour

We operate a friendly, respectful Range, no club politics. Inappropriate behaviour or language will not be tolerated. Alcohol or drugs must not be brought onto or consumed onsite. Anyone failing to comply with safety instructions will be asked to leave immediately. Respect other archers and their equipment. Follow all instructions from fellow shooters. Clean up your lane and remove all equipment before leaving.

Equipment Requirements

Your equipment must be in a safe, usable condition. We recommended that relevant PPE be used Arrows must be suitable for the bow being used. only have 6 arrows out on the shooting line Broadheads or hunting heads are strictly prohibited. (bodkins) Lost arrows /piles must be reported Field Sport staff reserve the right to inspect equipment and refuse use if deemed unsafe. At the moment we do not have a limit on draw weight

Shooting Procedure

You must ONLY nock your arrow when standing at the designated shooting lane. Only shoot at approved targets, positioned on your lane. Do not draw your bow without an arrow (no dry firing). Do not overdraw Do not sky draw Never shoot across to another lane. Keep arrows in your quiver until ready to shoot. If you drop an arrow in front of the shooting line, wait until shooting has stopped before retrieving it. Do Not move the targets

Arrow collection

Once you have shot ALL arrows, put your bow on the rest and Step back wait for fellow archers to finish (6 arrows max) You must ALL have no arrows left to shoot, and all archers must agree and acknowledge that you can “Walk forward” Open the gate to walk forward. Put the red flag in the doorway Walk, do not run, to collect arrows. You must put one hand against the boss to draw arrows safely, making sure no one is standing around you. Carry the arrows back safely. Do NOT climb the bank or enter the farmer’s field to find arrows The range gate must be closed once everyone is back from collecting arrows. Acknowledgement from ALL archers that all archers are back, and the “range is clear” command can be given by the person who closed the gate and remove the flag

Centre housekeeping

No smoking or vaping on the ranges. A designated area is provided. Paper targets can be put in the bin on range, all other rubbish to be taken away with you. In the event of an evacuation, the muster point is located at the far side of the car park. A first aid kit is located in the office, and First aiders are onsite. Emergency contact number: 07973 115769. Staff are always available — please ask if you need help or advice. Finally You break the rules, you will be asked to pay £10 to re-watch the video again or you may be asked to leave and banned from returning. This is a shooting ground, not a park, picnic or dog walking area. Friends and family can not enter the facility unless they are paying to use the facility, and we do not have any areas up the drive that people can walk in. For safety, do not wander around any of our woodland. You must carry your safety video card We will be having longer archery ranges and possibly a field target course. Keep everyone safe, follow all the rules, and if you are unsure, ASK!!
